HAWCS was started by Galen Gunn when he found a solution to analyse cropping growth rates for farmers, by attaching a digital camera to his first helicopter, a Robinson R22 in the late 80s.
Later he brought the first of it's kind, high resolution LiDAR scanning to helicopters to patrol utilities powerlines for vegetation encroachment and fault detection and condition monitoring.
When Southern California was experiencing devastating fires, Galen took HAWCS to Los Angeles to assist with fire mitigation surveys for Eddison International and has been known for his truly Australian "have-a-go" nature and exceptional problem solving skills.






Galen's ability to see outside-the-box has made him a leader in the industry for innovation and experimentation.
He has also worked in the aerial film and photography sector, and was the first in Australia to conduct Human-External-Cargo operations to facilitate the maintenance of transmission utilities.

Galen thrives when given new challenges to solve and with extensive experience in both fixed & rotary, is an accomplished pilot & business owner, with a deep knowledge of the utility industry, safe operations, risk management and regulatory compliance.
He is currently working on solutions over a variety of sectors, including environmental & agricultural.
